INTRODUCTION & AIMS
This course focuses on (principles of) structural and architectural design along with the relationship of architectural
practice with the civil engineering disciplines. Its fundamental purpose is to have students be familiar with the
concepts which will help them advance in design and coordinate with engineers and other professionals on the
process of design and form-finding.
The course starts with a holistic view of general structural systems and continues with the explanation of the
principles of different types like post-beam structures, plate systems, shell structures, tensile structures, truss
systems, and also composite structures through visual materials. Structural elements, types, and also new
technologies of the construction process will also be mentioned.
METHODS
Courses will be conducted through weekly discussion titles. Each weekly class will be accompanied by visual
examples of the architectural objects and texts which will lead to discussions and presentations. Additionally
Mural website and Mural boards will be used for the class. Related videos, texts, and course slides will be
uploaded to the blackboard before the class.
